Payroll Supervisor

Job description
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:
• Supervise the daily activities of the payroll administrators effectively to ensure payroll runs are accurate and within deadlines
• Payroll inputs and outputs are effectively supervised, planned, controlled, checked and captured to ensure accuracy, data integrity and cost containment
• Generate and consolidate timeous payroll summaries, cost reports and head counts, balance sheet reconciliations, monthly journals and ad hoc reports
• Conduct payroll audits in all areas including payroll input, provide recommendations for areas of improvement
• Manage the leave, training, performance and development of team to ensure business continuity
• Effective stakeholder engagement with sites and other departments to ensure smooth payroll workflows
• Manual processes and calculations are effected in line with regulations, procedures and standards
• Reconcile allocated general ledgers timeously as well as training and assisting payroll team recons
• Self and team provide effective and efficient administrative support to the payroll department in line with country statutory laws and Cementation Africa’s policies, standards and procedures
• Proactive payroll risk identification and mitigation in line with Cementation Africa’s standards, policies, procedures
• Effective self and team management in alignment with Cementation Africa values and leadership initiatives
Minimum requirements
Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
• Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent
• Minimum National Diploma: Payroll Administration Services NQF Level 5
• BCom Accounting / Finance / Human Resources Management (preferred)
• Registration with the South African Payroll Association (advantageous)
• Proficient in Sage 300 Payroll system (essential)
• Proficient in MS Office (Advanced Excel essential)
• Exposure to JDE or similar ERP system (advantageous)
• Ability to lead, supervise and train a team of payroll administrators through the full transactional flow of payroll processes and systems
• Ability to apply country statutory laws and best practices relating to payroll
• Sound numerical reasoning with excellent calculation ability
• Strong administration, planning, organising, control, delegation and prioritising skills
• Unwavering confidentiality and discretion
• High attention to detail and level of accuracy in all tasks
• Good English written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate effectively under pressure
Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:
• Minimum 6 years of full payroll function experience including reconciliations and journals
• Experience supervising across more than one payroll database of 1500 employees, preferably in a mining or construction environment
• At least 3 years of experience supervising a minimum of 2 team members on Sage 300 Payroll
• Experience gathering, collating and controlling large volumes of electronic/hard copy data and balancing large reconciliations within deadlines
• Experience implementing payroll processes effectively
• Excellent knowledge of POPIA, BCEA, Severance, COID and TAX statutory laws
