Introduction
Cementation Africa invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Surveyor Grade 2 to be placed in Tharisa. The successful candidate will report to the Surveyor Grade 3.
The company will provide remuneration and benefits relevant and appropriate to the position. Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) candidates. Applications only open to South African Citizens / Permanent Residents.
Job description
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:
- Conduct surveys for effective mine planning and maximisation of production and resources
- Supervise the daily activities of the surveying assistants
- Calculate volume of material deposits, spoil piles or veins and amount of overburden to be removed when required
- Interpret plans and accurately update measurements on a plan
- Assist with obtaining data for driving and connecting underground passages to control direction and extent of mining operation
- Take accurate instrument readings, perform accurate calculations of gradients and grades
- Install stope pegs and plugs and accurately measure advances of faces and determine cubes
- Install line and grade pegs in development such as haulages, Declines and Winze/Raise connections
- Honest, effective and timeous stakeholder engagement to ensure smooth workflows
- Understand and comply with legal regulations, Cementation Africa’s policies, procedures, standards, and safety protocols
- Proactive identification and mitigation of mine survey risks
- Effective self and team management in alignment with Cementation Africa values
Minimum requirements
Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
- Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent
- Chamber of Mines Elementary Surveying Certificate
- MS Office proficient [MS Projects, Excel]
- Exposure to mine survey / planning software Daswik (advantageous)
- Proficient in survey software Deswik, Cyclone 3DR, etc.
- Proficient drawing and preparing professionally detailed survey notes, holing notes, stop notes, etc.
- Valid EB driver’s license
- Valid Medical Certificate of Fitness
- Physically fit to carry survey equipment / tools
- Good English verbal and written communication skills
Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:
- Minimum 4 years of underground mine surveying experience
- Experience installing line and grade pegs in developments such as haulage / Declines and Winze/Raise connections
- Experience interpreting plans and updating measurements on a plan
- Knowledge of trackless mining and development
- Knowledge of development board and pillar mining
